We are a small luxury yet affordable motel located right in the heart of Kumara village right on the route of the West Coast Wilderness Trail our accommodation can cater for up to six people in each of our units, we also run the general store and post office in the village so can cater to your every need during your stay with us, whether it be groceries, post office, or takeaways.
Kumara developed during the great gold rush of 100 years ago when the population peaked at 20,000, prospectors came from far and wide and for a time the town was buzzing with pubs, brothels, stores, we even had our very own NZ Premier a Mister Richard (King Dick) Seddon who lived here and was to date the longest serving Prime minister of NZ, however the gold that was easily accessible came to an end and the town population declined.
Today Kumara is a service village for the rural community of dairy farmers, modern day miners, hunters, cyclists of the Wilderness trail and tourists, and is definitively on the up with many things happening around and about including modern day gold mining.
